Last updated 1 May 2026
1. Who we are
Debbie's Cabin (also trading online as "debbiescabin.co.za") is a quilt shop based in Atlasville, Boksburg, Gauteng, South Africa. For the purposes of POPIA, Debbie's Cabin is the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy.
If you have any question about this policy or your personal information, contact us at info@debbiescabin.co.za or on 082 775 9983.
2. What personal information we collect
- Contact details: your name, email address and phone number.
- Address details: billing and delivery addresses.
- Order information: what you bought, order values, dates and status.
- Correspondence: messages you send us through the contact form, WhatsApp or email.
- Payment information: the method and outcome of your payment. We do not store full card numbers — card details are handled by our payment provider.
- Technical information: device type, browser, IP address and the pages you visit, collected through cookies and server logs.
3. How we collect it
Mostly directly from you — when you place an order, create an account, send an enquiry or subscribe to our newsletter. Some information is collected automatically when you browse the site, and some is received from our payment provider or courier partners when completing your order.
4. Why we process it, and on what basis
- To fulfil your order: taking payment, packing, delivering and handling returns (performance of our contract with you).
- To communicate with you: confirming orders, answering enquiries and resolving problems (contract and legitimate interest).
- To prevent fraud and keep our shop and website secure (legitimate interest).
- To meet legal duties: tax, accounting and consumer-protection records (legal obligation).
- To improve our website and services (legitimate interest), and to send you news or specials (only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time).
5. Who we share it with
We share only what is necessary with service providers who help us run the shop: payment processors, delivery couriers, our website hosting and IT providers, and professional advisers. We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect our legal rights.
We never sell your personal information.
6. Sending information outside South Africa
Some of our service providers may store or process information outside South Africa. Where that happens, we require them to protect your information at a standard comparable to POPIA, as set out in section 72 of the Act.
7. How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, or as long as the law requires. Order and financial records are generally kept for five years for tax and accounting purposes. Marketing information is kept until you unsubscribe.
8. How we protect it
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards to protect your personal information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No system is completely secure, but we take our duty seriously and will notify you and the Information Regulator if a breach affects you, as POPIA requires.
9. Your rights
- Ask us what personal information we hold about you, and request a copy.
- Ask us to correct or delete information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive or unlawfully held.
- Object to processing based on legitimate interest.
- Withdraw any consent you have given, such as for marketing emails.
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa).
To exercise any of these rights, email info@debbiescabin.co.za. We may ask you to verify your identity before acting on a request. You can also contact the Information Regulator at enquiries@inforegulator.org.za or on 010 023 5200.
10. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep your cart and session working, remember your preferences and understand how the site is used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the shop — such as the cart — may then stop working.
11. Children
Our website and online shop are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without the consent of a parent or guardian.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time as our shop or the law changes. The latest version will always be published on this page, with the date it was last updated.
